Ride-hailing in Cairo

Uber and Careem both run in Egypt, and the app price is the whole point: it is settled before you get in.

Uber in Egypt calculates the price from estimated trip time, distance from origin to destination, time of day, route and demand patterns, and includes tolls, taxes, other fees and surcharges. That is the mechanism that removes the fare argument at the kerb.

Uber in Egypt takes cash as well as a card or Uber Cash, which matters in a country where the Government of Canada warns that many merchants accept cash only or add a fee for card.

Careem runs in Egypt on its own Egyptian site, offering Go, Go Awfar and Bike. Carry both apps, because the fallback for a rank driver who will not run the meter is a second app, not a negotiation.

Uber Egypt says you can schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance, which is the sane option for a pre-dawn departure back to CAI.
