Ride-hailing in Muscat
Street taxis and apps are now the same system: five licensed platforms, fares set by ministerial decision.
The traditional white and orange taxis have been integrated with licensed ride-hailing apps, in effect from 1 April 2025, extending from the airport rollout to those working at hotels, commercial centres and ports. The approved platforms are Oman Taxi, OTaxi, Marhaba, Hala and Tasleem, all operating under the Aber platform.
Fares sit under Ministerial Decision No 195/2018. The ministry has cautioned operators against altering fares without prior approval, and says any modification requires formal consent from the ministry. A quote that looks improvised is not the official rate.
OmanTaxi is the operator permitted by the government to run the Airport Pick-up Service at Muscat International, and offers private taxi, sharing taxi and female taxi services as well as hourly bookings.
Airport journeys are priced on the distance travelled from the airport and may carry an airport booking service fee on top, with the amounts approved by the ministry.
