Muscat

What crew need on the ground

Muscat is laid out as a line along the coast rather than around a centre, so every layover plan here is really a transport plan, and drink, dress and public conduct are all governed by law rather than by custom.

If you have

One district and the drive back, and only if you pick the near half of the city.

  1. Immigration, the walk down to Level 0 and waiting on a booked car take the front off it before you have moved. No operator or airport source publishes a city transfer time, so treat the drive as unknown rather than short.
  2. Al Khuwair and Qurum are the near end. Mutrah and Ruwi sit at the far end of the coastal strip, roughly 30km from the airport, which is not a six-hour errand with a flight to make.
  3. From June to August the outdoor part of any six-hour plan is short whatever you intended, with mean daily maxima running from 35.6C in August to 40.0C in June.
