Ride-hailing in Sydney

Uber and other rideshare services operate, and at T1 International UberX runs on a six-digit PIN from a specific rank rather than plate matching.

At T1 International, UberX collects from Rank C, 20 metres outside Arrivals Hall B, using PIN technology. All other Uber products, including Uber premium, Uber XL and Uber Green, are allocated a specific vehicle and collect from Rank B; these do not use PIN technology.

After requesting a ride you receive a six-digit PIN code, which you give to the first available driver at the pick-up zone before getting in. The NSW Government made the system permanent after a 12 month trial that carried over 300,000 trips and cut passenger wait times by 15.2 per cent.

At T2 Domestic, Uber uses the Priority Pick-up Zone. At T3 Domestic it is kerbside directly outside the terminal at arrivals level. All other rideshare services also use the Priority Pick-up Zone.

The A$60 fixed fare into the designated CBD area is a taxi measure and applies to one-way trips from a Sydney Airport taxi rank. It does not apply to rideshare.

Sydney Airport also runs WeKnow, an in-terminal service for booking a premium taxi before you leave the terminal, from a desk in T1 International Arrivals or digital kiosks near Carousel 7 at baggage reclaim. It uses PIN technology so the driver and vehicle are assigned before you go landside, and staff walk you to the priority taxi pick-up area.
