Staying connected in Sydney
A prepaid SIM needs your name, date of birth, home address and an ID check before it works, and T1 International has free Wi-Fi.
Australia's communications regulator says a telco must take your name, date of birth and home address and check your ID when you activate a prepaid mobile service.
The telco looks at your documents or checks them through a government service such as the Document Verification Service. It may instead verify you through an existing post-paid or prepaid account, or a real-time or time-delayed financial transaction.
The regulator lists no accepted documents and tells you to contact the provider.
Free Wi-Fi covers the whole of T1 International: choose Sydney Airport Free WiFi, answer the questions and accept the terms, and a sponsored message plays first.
The airport says the service is not encrypted, so use banking, email and social media only where the site has its own security.
